Falwell's shot across Rudy's bow

Making a big show of how he's only inviting McCain to speak at his university, not endorsing him, in the NYTimes op-ed today:

"The next election for president is more than two years away. Mr. McCain is the front-runner for the nomination and is the kind of conservative candidate whom I would have little trouble supporting.

The electoral landscape, however, is vast and fickle, apt to change over the next many months. If Mr. McCain receives the nomination for president, then I will work for his election. But if another candidate who shares our values wins the nomination, then I will work to support that candidate, too." (emphasis added)
This last sentence really jumped out at me. I take it Falwell would not therefore be willing to support , then, if Giuliani were to get the nomination. Giuliani with his moderate views on social value issues and who is testing the Republican nomination waters is getting a shot across the bow from Falwell. No pro-choice Republicans need apply. On the heels of Rudy's public exploration of a possible candidacy this week, no doubt the timing of this op-ed is just a coincidence, right? Yeah, looks like is Falwell's boy, despite his protestations.

Also, further wondering if Falwell's statement means that if the Democrats were ever to nominate a pro-life candidate, Falwell would work to support him or her? Just wondering...
