Going through the motions

A chastened Pierre Poilievre apologized in the House today for his remarks yesterday now that he's been caught with his foot planted firmly and largely within his mouth. An impressive young Conservative can't have this kind of thing preventing his rise in government after all. So feigned sincerity was Mr. Poilievre's challenge.

Seems rather hollow to express such unbridled lengthy opinions that appear to be well formed in Mr. Poilievre's mind on Wednesday and then abruptly take it back and apologize on Thursday. It doesn't jive.

Poilievre's remarks remain a blight on yesterday's events and a record of ugly sentiment. No taking that back.

Update: Contrite looking picture of the young tyke accompanying CTV report on his apology. The apology was two sentences. Yet he rambled on and on and on yesterday. Not responsive to the damage done, Pierre.

And there's this:

CTV parliamentary correspondent Roger Smith said many Conservatives are also angry at Poilievre.

"Certainly the content of what he said is very debatable, his timing was not very good at all," said Smith.

Do ya think?

Update II: skdadl has appropriately admonished me for my use of the word, "jive," above. I stand corrected. The appropriate word is "jibe," which should be inserted instead. As in, Pierre Poilievre's pathetic apology doesn't jibe.

Who knew that the progressive blogosphere would insist upon such grammatical correctness...:)
