Bad news for Mulroney, the wheels are moving forward on the public inquiry on his business dealings with Karlheinz Schreiber: "Harper names Manitoba justice to head Mulroney-Schreiber inquiry." While the scope of the inquiry is not as wide as many would prefer, this is not going to be comfortable at all for Mr. Mulroney to be scrutinized in such a forum by skilled lawyers. Some of the past dealings can't help but eke their way into the hearing in any event. (Is "eke" ok, skdadl? heh)
So it only took Harpie 7 months to appoint a judge. Thought he'd have an election under his belt by now and a majority following which he'd put the kibosh on this, no doubt. Now he's had to act otherwise the Commons committee was going to get all fired up again. And now he's enmeshed in scandals of much more immediate impact on his government than even the Mulroney taint, a la Cadman, Elections Canada and Couillard.
Funny how things work out.
