About the Dhalla controversy...

Just a few points...

I see George Young has called out we Liberal bloggers on the Ruby Dhalla story, in a sense, wondering why no commentary on the Star reporting yesterday. Speaking for myself, I'd just say I was writing about other things, the usual Harper focus around here, don't ya know.

Secondly, I'd agree with what the commenter said at 3:15 p.m. at George's blog (no right-click link capability there, you'll have to visit). Having, albeit superficially, scanned the documents at the Star site, including the telephone interview with Dhalla and the receipts and government documents supplied (pdf), I didn't see Ruby Dhalla's name anywhere. But the Star report from earlier today does indicate an interview with someone at Intercede who claims to have spoken with Ruby Dhalla on the matter, suggesting her involvement. So, in line with what that commenter at GY's blog suggests, there needs to be caution on whether or not she was involved, the veracity of the allegations against her and let whatever investigation occur to clear it up. She's indicated a willingness to do so and her stepping away from her critic's role to accomplish that is appropriate.

I'd also say that even if a Conservative MP were involved here, not sure I'd be blogging this significantly in that case. It's not an area I'm familiar with in terms of the legal requirements and such, to be perfectly honest. Another learning curve to climb on legalities of caregivers.

In terms of the politics, it is curious though, the number of incidents piling up with Dhalla and the publicity received, particularly in view of Minister Kenney's eye on her seat and his palling around with Dhalla's ongoing opponent, Parm Gill. Interesting the way it's all working out.

Finally, if nanny treatment by MPs is on the table, then I would assume the Star would be pursuing or seeking information from others...right?
