Capricious contempt

The Province
Wednesday, June 10, 2009:
Conservative transport minister John Baird just told the City of Toronto to "f--- off" regarding its $1.6 billion request for economic stimulus cash.

Natural resources minister Lisa Raitt said "roll the dice" on cancer and nuclear medicine.

Agriculture minister Gerry Ritz laughed at listeriosis deaths.

Canada would be run better by a government that did not regard we citizens with such capricious contempt.

Eugene Parks, Victoria
Emphasis happily added. Also published here.

By the way, the Ritz is back in the news too, not just in the above letter but apparently because he's still done nothing about one of the key failings his government has presided over, the poorly resourced meat inspection regime that contributed to the listeriosis crisis. They learn nothing, this incompetent Harper crew. (Have I told you lately that Gerry Ritz should be fired? Well, of course he still should.)

Yes, Canada would be better off without these bankrupt operators.

The best and the brightest of the public service know it too as evidenced by yet another departure from the S.S. Harper.

And what's this about the Minister of Natural Resources holding a "news" conference today?Surely this would have been opportune and an excellent idea given that there's a national health care crisis going on and Canadians have many questions. Oh, questions were permitted. Just a presentation being given.
It's not clear what changed overnight, other than growing public outrage.
Well, maybe this?

[Update: The reference above to the person leaving the Harper government was a mistaken report and the post should be read with that in mind.]
